Ambassadorial Nominees: Tinubu has made Nigeria a laughing stock among comity of nations — ADC chieftain Akuma
A chieftain of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has condemned in strong terms the calibre of people that made President Bola Tinubu’s ambassadorial list.
According to him, in a country of more than 200 million people, if the names on the list is what Nigerians can boost of then we should cover our faces with shame.
He said that what President Bola Tinubu succeeded in doing by drawing the list is making Nigeria a laughing stock in the committee of nations.
Speaking further, he said that there is no country in the world where characters like Femi Fani Kayode, Reno Omokri and Mahmood Yakubu would go and they would be taken seriously.
He said that the reason is because the world already knows that they people with integrity deficit.
According to him, all over the world those who are nominated ambassadors are people of high moral standing because they are the faces of their countries wherever they are posted.
He said imagine characters like Reno Omokri and Femi Fani Kayode who the world already knows as propagandists being the image of Nigeria.
“I want call on president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to please withdraw the ambassadorial list he has sent to the Senate and re-nominate people with high moral standing who would command respect wherever they are posted. Ambassadors are far more sensitive than ministerial appointments because they are the image of the country wherever they are sent and that is the reason why people with integrity and impeccable character are always considered. But the list that President Tinubu sent consist of people who are widely perceived negatively by Nigerians in particular and the world in general. Imagine the recent exposure of Reno Omokri by an American clergy as a liar and fraudster and the immediate past INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who conducted the worst election in the history of electioneering in Nigeria. This simply showed that we are not serious a country.”
Akuma said that even if Tinubu wants to reward those who did one job or the other for him, it must not be with ambassadorial positions.
He said that it is better that we don’t have ambassadors in other countries than the list that President Tinubu sent to the senate.
According to him, what shocked him the most is that it took the President almost three years to produce the list and almost all the names there are nothing to right home about with regard to credibility.
