ADC slams Wike’s ‘rude, indecorous’ attack on Obi, ask him to prioritize governance over ‘verbal combat
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his “reckless, condescending, and utterly unnecessary” outburst against former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Wike’s attack came after Obi highlighted the deplorable state of a public primary school in Abuja, lacking basic facilities like toilets and chairs.
In a statement signed by Chukwudi Samuel, ADC FCT Publicity Secretary, the party described Wike’s response as “undignified and beneath the office he occupies,” emphasizing that leadership requires restraint and a focus on service, not ego.
The ADC urged Wike to prioritize governance over “gossip” and address the real issues affecting Abuja’s residents, including education, dignity, inclusion, and accountability.
The controversy stems from Obi’s observation about the poor school conditions, which the ADC says should have prompted action, not irritation. The party contrasted Obi’s prudent governance as Anambra Governor, leaving billions in reserves and improved social indices, with Wike’s approach, accusing him of prioritizing self-glorification over meaningful development.
“The ADC reminds Mr Wike that abuse is not performance. You can commission all the roads you like, but if children in Abuja are still learning without toilets, desks, or dignity, then your ‘development’ is hollow,” the statement read.
