The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided over 20 shops and storage facilities in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
The raid resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of banned codeine-based syrups and other controlled substances.
The operation, which took place earlier in the week along Agege Motor Road, was carried out by officials from the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
According to NAFDAC, 13 shops were sealed during the enforcement exercise for engaging in the sale of unregistered, expired, banned, and controlled medicinal products.
Among the confiscated items were Dynamogen Oral Solution, Diazepam, Molly, Co-codamol, and Bromazepam.
The agency stated that these substances pose serious health risks, particularly to vital organs such as the brain, liver, and kidneys, due to the unverified safety and efficacy of unregistered and prohibited medicines.
NAFDAC also urged members of the public to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious drug-related activities to the nearest agency office.
