Fourteen persons have been rescued and others feared dead as a building under construction collapsed in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
Several other people were, at the time of filling this report, still trapped under the debris of the collapsed building as emergency responders battled to rescue them.
The rescued persons were identified as workers in the building who were working on-site when the incident occurred.
Though details of the incident were still sketchy at the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the building was situated at Oriwu street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.
The police in the State confirmed the incident and added that the area was quickly cordoned off to ensure effective rescue operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the collapse of the building in a short statement.
The police spokesperson said: “Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have been mobilized to the scene of the collapse of a building under construction at Oriwu Street, Lekki Phase 1 which occurred at about 1600hrs today.
“A total of fourteen persons have so far been rescued and taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment. “
He added: “Meanwhile, operatives of the Command remain on ground to provide security for the ongoing rescue operation.”
