A governor should have the boldness to remain in office to fight injustice. He should have the courageous conscience to quit if that is a better option to enhance the cause of justice. Whoever aspires to the office of governor should have a disciplined mind and humble disposition to accept the post as a temporary office. He must be capable of maintaining love, peace and harmony in his own family.
A governor should maintain discipline in personal taste and be moderate in his temper both in public and in private.He should be dignified in his appearance, in his approach, in his movement and in his speaking. That is why the position of a ruler is unique and not meant for every Dick and Harry.
(d) Hardwork and Humility
Whoever worked hard to get a job should work harder to keep it. Governance is a serious business not meant for lazy, fun-filled, fun-loving and slumbering people. Laziness paves the way for gossip, it breeds crime.A common adage says that an idle hand is the devil’s workshop. Idleness is a common canker among the Nigerian civil servants.
Many civil servants who have no shame often claim that government job is not their father’s work. Such group of workers devise methods of leaving their office unnoticed, after getting their accomplices to cover their tracks. This bad practice is the extension of the evil culture that is the brain child of the Nigerian political class.
Many ministers often get projects approved but would pocket half of the fund meant to do the work.Thank God ,there are some diligent and faithful ministers and civil servants who would go extra-mile to carry out their duties effectively and faithfully. These are the patriotic Nigerians who keep the engine of government running. Only the conscientious rulers and ministers in Nigeria declare their assets faithfully.
(e) The Fear of God. “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” A ruler should be guided by the fear of God in his thoughts,words and actions. He should know that it is God who allowed him to get to that position. He should know the limits of his power in office and above all in life.He should know that only God, the author of change,does not change and that all other conditions, life situations and things often change. Sooner or later another person will occupy that position. An ungodly ruler is an ungrateful person and a curse on the nation he rules.Every ruler in the world should be a man or woman of high integrity, never unscrupulous in any dealings nor unfaithful in his thoughts, words and actions.Above all, a ruler should have the fear of God always, unconditionally and absolutely.
