They rig themselves, family members and cronies into the National and State Assemblies to pass laws with loopholes through which they rip-off the nation.Whoever challenges them in the court of law will meet his ‘Waterloo’ there.Even if he wins the case, the authority speaking in government will not obey the court judgement and orders.
The scenarios l have been narrating in this book with life-case studies from Africa, Nigeria in particular, do exist in many other countries of the world as well, though to a less extent. The world needs wiser leaders not wiseacres! “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump,” we learned from the word of God. One bad apple, after time, will make the whole bunch bad. Without moral goodness uprooting the aforesaid obscenities of evil the whole world will suffer the consequences.A stitch in time saves nine, says the old adage.
(b).Honesty and Justice.
A ruler should be reasonably fair in his dealing with his subjects and the resources of the nation.He should be seen to be transparently honest in his actions, words and deeds both in public and behind the scenes.His upright colleagues and the observing public should be able to testify to his integrity. He will not make vague or ambiguous statements nor ask his ministers to engage in such damnable acts. He should not show undue favouritism to anybody even to members of his family. He should have an unalloyed loyalty to the country and the constitution, but to the truth always where there is ambiguity due to legal technicalities. He should pursue the truth and its dictates at all costs and at all times. Justice is the promoter of peace in any political environment, injustice is its bane.Injustice breeds incrimination and recriminations, injustice is cruel, injustice is evil. A ruler who denies justice to others deserves no justice himself.
(c) Courage and Discipline.
Sometimes justice becomes a dilemma, that is when and where courage and discipline take over. A governor should have the courage and discipline to be on the side of the right regardless of the cost to him in person. That is the honourable place to be at all times and under any condition.Courage is the defense minister to justice, and moral goodness is the president of justice.
