‘I’m not available,’ Umahi berates those wishing crises between him and his successor, Nwifuru

Immediate past Governor of Ebonyi state, now Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has vowed that nothing will bring disagreement between him and his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru.

 

He reassured that he would always throw his weight behind the Governor to ensure that he succeeds in his administration for the ultimate good of the state.

 

Umahi spoke to journalists Wednesday in his Abakaliki residence, Ebonyi State.

 

He berated those wishing crises between himself and the Governor describing them as people seeking to reap where they did not sow.

 

Umahi expressed deep confidence in Governor Nwifuru’s wisdom, stating that he made up his mind in 2015 to nominate him (Nwifuru) for the Governorship position based on divine inspiration and his consistency in character.

 

He described politicians who fight their successors as people lacking wisdom.

 

Umahi said: “Why should you be here and be there?

 

“For the governor, I made up my mind in 2015 that because he is very consistent, that God willing, I was going to nominate him.

 

“I built my mind based on the intuition from God because everything belongs to God.

 

“Some people want crisis so that they can make money.

 

“But the truth is that I am not available.

 

“What is it that I want in life?

I’ve been so blessed beyond measure.

 

“So, I will support the governor.

 

“Once in a while, we talk and I will advise him because, at least, I have been in that seat.

 

Nwifuru has great wisdom.”

 

The Minister commended the Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North, Senatorial district for successfully securing provision in the national Budget to connect the 71Km Nwiboko Obodo road to Benue State.

 

He informed that the Asiwaju legacy road project would be passing through the same road, from Ishieke junction in Ebonyi, 46Km to Oturkpo in Benue state.

 

The Legacy road according to Umahi, has been designed to be six lanes along its route but ten lanes within the townships.

 

“We are going to be crossing 3 to 5 Km Benue/Kogi bridge to get to Nassarawa and Abuja.

 

“The idea is for the people of southeast and south-south from that point, to be able to make Abuja within 4 to 5 hours.

 

“The design will be completed in the next two months, and I believe strongly that the job will start, and it will begin from Ebonyi.”

 

Responding to the question on the current hardship in the country, Umahi maintained that the meltdown is not peculier to Nigeria.

 

He urged citizens to be patient with President Tinubu, stating that the president is taking hard decisions that would guarantee the future and wellbeing of all peoples of the country.

 

He emphasized that citizens equally have a share of the blame over the economic situation in the Nigeria, stating that everyone needs to have self examination and sincerely determine to be productive.

 

“The fact is that not even the Buhari administration created this hardship.

 

“We are all guilty of this hardship and there will be more hardship unless we begin to reexamine ourselves.

 

“One of the key ways to revive our beings is to work.

 

“So, the President is taking hard decisions to secure our future.

“We are on the right part, I can tell you.”
