The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adeniyi, has read the riot act for the oil and gas majors and others to work in consonance with the weights and measure provisions of the law.
He warned operators who are used to braking legal provisions in the area of weight and to get ready for ardent sanctions from the Ministry.
Adebayo was represented by the Director, Weight and Measure of his Ministry, Hassas Egibnor, at the one-day engagement with Major Marketers Association of Nigeria(MOMAN) and The Petroleum Product Depot Owners Association (PPDOA) at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. He said the engagement was to jaw_jaw with oil and operators in the overall interest of the economy.
Said he: ”As major stakeholders,i would like to reiterate that the Ministry will request you to provide the Inspectors of Weights and Measures Department with full maximum cooperation whenever they are in your business premises to carry out their statutory duties,which is for the common good of all.
“It will be necessary for me to urge all to ensure that all your weighing and measuring equipment are in conformity with the provisions of the Weights and measures Act at all times and ensure prompt payment of the fees after the verification of the equipment to ascertain they are good and fit for use for trade.”
The event was graced by representatives of MOMAN and PPDOA including Andover PLC ,Ayowale Adeyinka,Conoil PLC,Olayinka Slade;Total Energy PLC,Amosu Olajide ;Akinwande Ajayi among others.
The operators who spoke complained many about double taxation and conflicting roles between the Ministry of Industry and the Department of Petroleum Resources(DPR), asking for the Ministry to ensure that this was eradicate .
Mr Jwan Geoffrey and Mrs Cordelia Nwachukwu urged the operators to open and sincere in dealing with the Ministry in their overall interest and that of the economy.
They urged the oil and gas operators that the ministry is there to ensure their success for the overall betterment of Nigeria and its peoples
