Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has finally responded to the recent popularity contest initiated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urging him to wait for the outcome of the 2027 general election before reaching a conclusion.
He made this known on Monday while appearing as a guest on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
Kwankwaso was responding to Atiku’s recent comment in which he asserted that Kwankwaso’s popularity is restricted to Kano.
While speaking during the interview, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate argued that no current or emerging leader in the region matches his political reach today.
He said: “Can you tell me who is a current leader in the North who has more votes than I have? Talking of leaders like Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, and El-Rufai, and also the emerging political leaders, none of them has received the northern vote as much as I have.”
Reacting, Kwankwaso said it is too early to make such a claim, insisting that Kano will give him a bloc vote.
He added that he wishes Atiku well, despite them pursuing their political aspirations under different political platforms.
He said: “Let’s wait and see the election. I have no issue with that, and I think we have gone past that level now.
“We are in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for now, and I know they are in the African Democratic Congress (ADC). I wish them well.
“You see, anybody who is talking about or asking questions about whether our votes will split in Kano is being impatient. Let’s wait for the election and see whether our votes are split in Kano or not.”
