Lekki estate, three others sealed by Lagos govt over untreated sewage discharge

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the enforcement action via his official X handle on Thursday.
According to Wahab, the sealing of Pinnock Beach Estate followed repeated warnings and abatement notices over the deliberate pumping of untreated sewage into a canal, which the agency said was causing environmental nuisance, reports The PUNCH.
He wrote, “After several warnings and abatement notices, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Thursday 7th May, 2026, sealed-off Pinnock Beach Estate, Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos, over deliberate discharge of untreated sewage via pumping machine into the canal causing environmental nuisance, offensive odour, as well as endangering human health and aquatic life.”
A property at No. 28 Amodu Street, Itire, Surulere, was also sealed following verified resident complaints of continuous discharge of raw sewage into a neighbouring compound and public drains.
Two other properties were sealed during the same enforcement exercise. They are a property at Oladipo Dumoye Street, Mashy Hill Estate, Ado Road, Ajah, Eti-Osa, and Vintage Heights Estate, Ojulari Street, Elegushi, Lekki, Eti-Osa, both sealed over deliberate discharge of untreated sewage into public drains.
“A property at Oladipo Dumoye Street, Mashy Hill Estate, Ado Road, Ajah, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over deliberate discharge of untreated sewage into the public drains, causing environmental nuisance, drainage blockage, pollution as well as endangering human health.
“Vintage Heights Estate, Ojulari Street, Elegushi, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over deliberate discharge of untreated sewage into the public drains via pumping machine and raw sewage into the environment, causing environmental nuisance, drainage blockage, pollution as well as endangering human health.”
The Lagos State Government warned residents and property managers to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices adding that any individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be meted with appropriate sanctions.
