Residents of Kwallak community in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State have lynched three persons accused of killing a traditional ruler.
The victims were allegedly linked to the murder of the community’s monarch, Mr Ponzhi Kwallak, who was reportedly attacked and killed in his residence by assailants who fled with valuables, including a motorcycle and mobile phone.
According to sources, the suspects were later apprehended by locals while attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle. They were said to have confessed to the crime during interrogation by members of the community.
Attempts by some residents to hand the suspects over to security operatives were reportedly thwarted when an angry mob overpowered them, seized the suspects, and set them ablaze.
The incident, which occurred near the local government secretariat, has sparked concern over the rising cases of mob justice in the country.
Police authorities in Plateau State have confirmed the development and said investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding both the monarch’s killing and the subsequent lynching.
The tragic episode underscores growing frustration over insecurity and the dangers of jungle justice, which often denies suspects due process under the law.
