Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, on Thursday received the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, in Onitsha for high-level discussions on Nigeria’s development and international cooperation.
The meeting, held in Obi’s hometown, focused on key national issues including economic growth, governance, education, and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the European Union.
Speaking after the engagement, Obi emphasised the need for strategic partnerships that can drive sustainable development, improve infrastructure, and create opportunities for Nigeria’s growing youth population.
“We must continue to engage with global partners in ways that will uplift our people and strengthen our institutions,” Obi said.
Ambassador Mignot, on his part, reiterated the European Union’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in areas such as democratic governance, economic reforms, and human capital development.
Sources familiar with the meeting said discussions also touched on investment opportunities, security challenges, and the role of international cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic issues.
