Shocking: Serving Police Inspector turns robber, shot dead during operation in Niger

A serving police inspector, Jido Ahmed, has been killed after allegedly participating in an armed robbery in Kontagora, Niger State.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed that the officer, attached to the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF), died from gunshot wounds sustained during a clash with a police patrol team, reports Daily Sun.

Robbery Gone Wrong

According to police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, the inspector and an accomplice—now on the run—attacked a filling station near BCG Motor Park in Kontagora.

The suspects, riding a motorcycle, reportedly robbed a station attendant of cash and shot him in the chest before fleeing.

Gun Duel With Police

Police operatives from ‘A’ Division swiftly responded, tracking the suspects to the Dadin Kowa area where a gun battle erupted.

“One of the robbers was shot, disarmed, and later identified as Inspector Jido Ahmed,” Abiodun said.

The injured officer was initially taken to General Hospital, Kontagora, before being transferred to the Police Clinic in Minna, where he later died.

Manhunt Ongoing

The police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigations continue into the shocking incident involving one of their own.
