Controversy deepens as Sowore claims ₦110m settlement in Umahi– Tracy Ohiri debt saga

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, paid ₦110 million to businesswoman Tracy Ohiri as part of a settlement over their controversial dispute.

Sowore made the claim while reacting to recent developments surrounding the controversy between Umahi and Ohiri, suggesting that the matter may have been quietly resolved through a civil agreement.

According to him, information available to him indicated that Umahi allegedly paid the sum of ₦110 million to Ohiri, a development he claimed may have influenced the retraction of some of the earlier allegations she made against the minister.

“From what I heard, they said he gave her ₦110 million,” Sowore stated while commenting on the issue.

“If the matter was settled out of court and money exchanged hands, Nigerians deserve to know what really transpired,” he added.

The controversy began after Ohiri took to social media to accuse Umahi of allegedly owing her money linked to past business and political dealings said to date back several years.

In a series of viral videos, the businesswoman had earlier alleged that the minister failed to honour certain financial commitments to her.

“I only asked for what is rightfully mine,” Ohiri had claimed in one of the earlier videos that circulated widely online.

Her allegations sparked widespread reactions on social media and later attracted the attention of law enforcement authorities.

At a point during the dispute, Ohiri was arrested by the police over allegations bordering on cyberbullying and defamation following complaints linked to the minister.

However, in a surprising twist, she later released a video in which she appeared to retract some of the earlier accusations.

The development fueled speculation that the parties may have reached a private resolution.

Sowore’s claim about a possible ₦110 million settlement has since generated debate across social media platforms, though there has been no official confirmation from Umahi or the Federal Ministry of Works regarding the alleged payment.

Similarly, Ohiri has yet to publicly clarify whether any financial settlement was reached.

Efforts to obtain official reactions from the parties involved were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
