ADC blasts APC spokesman over ‘insult-laden’ statement, says resort to insults a sign of ‘intellectual bankruptcy’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has lashed out at the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as an “insult-laden and inflammatory” public statement directed at opposition figures.

In a strongly worded response issued on Tuesday, the ADC spokesman, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi accused the APC media team of abandoning issue-based engagement in favour of personal attacks and derogatory remarks. The party said such rhetoric undermines democratic discourse and distracts from substantive national concerns.

While the ADC did not reproduce the full remarks it found offensive, it insisted that political debate must remain focused on policies, governance performance, and accountability rather than character attacks.

“The resort to insults is a sign of intellectual bankruptcy and desperation,” the party said, urging the APC to “elevate the tone of national conversation.”

The ADC further warned that persistent inflammatory rhetoric could heighten political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on all parties to demonstrate restraint.

As of press time, the APC spokesman had not issued a rebuttal to the ADC’s reaction.
