Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for declaring Sylva wanted, calling it a “coordinated political attack” intended to tarnish his principal’s image.
In a statement released on Monday night, Bokoru noted that the announcement, made via the EFCC’s social media accounts, bypassed official communication channels and standard procedures.
He stated that the move seems to be part of ongoing efforts to cast Sylva in a negative light.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday announced via social media that it had declared Chief Timipre Sylva wanted. No formal communication was extended to him, and no established protocol was observed,” he said.
He further stated that the latest allegations against Sylva represent a continuation of shifting narratives surrounding earlier claims, emphasizing that the new accusations should be thoroughly investigated.
Bokoru reaffirmed that Sylva is committed to due process and respect for lawful institutions, adding that he will respond to the EFCC’s invitation after completing his ongoing medical examination in the United Kingdom.
He also expressed confidence in Sylva’s innocence, noting that the refinery project mentioned in the EFCC’s notice is a genuine venture with all relevant documents available for verification.
“To our friends, allies, and well-wishers: this, too, shall pass. Truth, though often delayed, remains consistent. Those behind this campaign will not prevail,” the statement added.
