The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has called on the Oyo State government and traditional rulers to intervene in the case of the three detained members of the organization by the police.

The OPC members  had arrested Ismail Wakili, a Fulani, who was said  to be the  mastermind behind the  spate of kidnappings and other atrocities in Ibarapa area of the state .

They were arrested after honouring an invitation by the police.

Comrade Rotimi Olumo, the State Coordinator of OPC led by Iba Gani Adams’ faction in the state said this while briefing newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

He averred that the state government and traditional rulers cannot afford to fold their arms concerning  the present situation.

“The security of the state is of paramount importance to us. We cannot fold our arms and allow Wakili to dominate Ibarapa region.”

Comrade Olumo  said the OPC members did not do anything wrong in  assisting the police in arresting Ismaila Wakil.

He added that the role the organization played is not against the Nigerian constitution.

“All legitimate protocols were observed in the course of arresting the suspect and Wakil was not at anytime maltreated before he was handed over to the police.

“It came as a surprise that the police turned around to arrest the three OPC members.”

The OPC coordinator, then appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde  and all traditional rulers in the state to put necessary steps in place, so that those arrested can be unconditionally released.

“OPC and the Nigeria Police force are partners in progress, so, there must be a synergy between both organizations. The OPC will do all the necessary things to make sure that residents of Oyo State sleep with their two eyes closed.”
