Sexual Attack of Underaged Girl: Baba Ijesha sentenced to 16 years imprisonment

Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos, on Thursday, handed down 16 years sentence to Olarinwaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, for sexual assault involving a minor after an intense year-long legal battle arising from allegations of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

After a judgement that lasted about two hours, Taiwo found the prolific actor guilty of four out of the six count charges, bordering on indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault, but discharged and acquitted him of counts one and six, which were: sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.

Taiwo after coming to her conclusions, stood down the matter for a few minutes before she returned to hand over the sentencing, which would run concurrently, ending the legal battle, which commenced on June 24, 2021, following the approval by the Lagos state directorate of public prosecutions (DPP).

Baba Ijesha, was nailed by the evidence of the six prosecution witnesses who testified against him, including Princess, the 14-year-old minor, Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, a child expert; Aniekan Makanjuola, a medical doctor; Wahab Kareem, the investigating police officer; and Abigail Omane, a policewoman.
