Recall our husbands from Niger, MOPOLs’ wives tell Lagos CP
The women who stormed the Command headquarters with their children, some of whom were in their school uniforms, lamented that their husbands attached to Mopol 22, had spent over one year in Niger State.
They, therefore, appealed to the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi to prevail on the Commander Mopol 22, to rotate the posting, stressing that trauma and fatigue would have set in.
The protesting wives with placards on which were inscribed “CP Lagos State, please look into our matter and call MOPOL 22 Commander to order’ ‘CP please release our husbands from Niger State after one year of special duty’ ‘MOPOL 22 Commander, bring our fathers’, MOPOL 22 Commander, bring our husbands on Special duty of three months turned one-year special duty.”
The leader of the protest, Mrs Blessing Babagbemi, disclosed that their husbands were deployed for special duty in February 2021.
Describing their long stay as illegal and contrary to the stipulated duration by the Nigeria Police Force, she revealed that one of the Mobile policemen lost his life while others were injured during an attack by bandits who outnumbered them.
Mrs Babagbemi said, “The first attack was on May 31, 2021. The bandits made away with all their foodstuff. After the first attack, our husbands saved money and bought things, but the bandits came again on January 16, 2022, packed all their properties including uniforms, drugs and food and since then they have been abandoned without food. They are left to survive on their own.
“We expected our husbands back in December 2021 but we did not see them. Three weeks ago, we went to Oduduwa to see MOPOL 22 Commander, AC Bright Ibiye. He was not in the office. The provost came to see us. We told him we wanted our husbands to be rotated.
“The provost promised that our husbands would be back by January or February 2021. Later we saw the Commander who promised to table our matter before his superiors in Abuja. He gave us two bags of rice and N10,000 which we shared among ourselves. Unfortunately, to date, we have not heard anything from them. We are here due to lack of feedback”.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP. Adekunle Ajisebutu could not be reached for comments as of the time of writing this report.
