Peter Obi remains unshaken amid desperate attacks on his image, comparing him to Trump laughable – POMR

The Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) says it is has been compelled, once again, to respond to what it describes as “desperate attempts” by certain groups to tarnish the reputation of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate. In a strongly-worded press release, the media office highlighted what it sees as a continued smear campaign designed to discredit Obi’s integrity and popularity.

 

In the press statement signed by POMR Spokesman Ibrahim Umar, the organization accused various propagandists of employing falsehoods and distortions to paint Obi in a negative light. The release highlighted several recent instances where unverified claims, such as fabricated arrests or baseless accusations of violence sponsorship, were circulated in the media.

 

“These traducers cannot let a day go by without concocting one scandal or another to malign Obi and his family. The goal is to smear his impeccable image in the public sphere, and we see through these tactics,” Umar said.

 

One of the more recent claims addressed in the press release was the attempt to link Obi to the U.S. election process by comparing him to Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. POMR dismissed this as a laughable and desperate ploy, accusing the presidency of trying to draw comparisons between Obi and U.S. politicians to distract from domestic issues.

 

“Those trying to compare Peter Obi to Donald Trump are merely engaging in a futile effort to curry favor with the U.S. Democrats. Nigerians know better than to fall for such transparent and ridiculous comparisons. Does calling Peter Obi ‘a Trump’ mean Tinubu is Harris?” Umar asked rhetorically.

 

The statement further took aim at the incumbent administration, criticizing it for failing to engage with the media or address key policy issues affecting the country. According to POMR, the current government has resorted to diversionary tactics because it cannot sell its policies to the Nigerian public.

 

POMR’s statement also accused the government’s media spin doctors of twisting Obi’s recent statements in a media interview to falsely suggest he is willing to serve as Vice President. The release emphatically rejected this narrative, reaffirming that Obi is solely focused on seeing Nigeria work and is not desperate for any political position.

 

“Peter Obi has consistently stated that his aim is to fix Nigeria, not just to be President. Misrepresenting his words to create confusion is a cheap tactic aimed at demoralizing his supporters,” Umar noted.

 

Despite what POMR describes as a continuous smear campaign, Obi’s media team remains confident that his rising profile will remain intact. The statement urged Obi’s supporters, fondly known as the ‘Obidients’, to stay focused on their goal of achieving a “new Nigeria.”

 

“Rather than sell their flawed policies to the public, they have resolved to discredit the best candidate. But Nigerians are not gullible. We remain confident that Peter Obi is the people’s hope for a better democracy.”

 

“As the 2023 election season fades into memory, it’s clear that Peter Obi’s name continues to generate both admiration and controversy in equal measure. With rising political tensions, it remains to be seen how his opponents will respond to the growing public support Obi enjoys,” POMR concluded.
