PEPT: Tinubu declared President-elect after only 31% of poll results was collated, INEC’s witness tells tribunal

An Assistant Director in the Information Technology (IT) department of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Lawrence Bayode, who was also its witness, has revealed that only 31% of results collated when INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declared Asiwaju Bola Tinubu the President-elect, adding, however, that the decision was “mathematically correct.”

 

The INEC Director cum witness made the declaration while answering questions during cross-examination at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC).

 

The Director made the admission under oath in court Monday, during the hearing of the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

 

He said emphatically that only 31% of results collated at the time the INEC chairman declared Tinubu President-elect.

 

The INEC witness further told the court that there was a technical glitch that affected the uploading of the presidential election results.

 

Under cross-examination by Chris Uche, he said that INEC did not report the glitch to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
