Kenyan Government has denied the allegation by the brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, his brother Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria by Kenya.
The Director General of Immigration Services of Kenya Alexander Muteshi, dismissed the claim saying “Kanu was neither arrested nor extradited to Nigeria by Kenyan authorities.
An Official in the Kenya Ministry of Interior also noted that the ministry has no knowledge of Kanu’s extradition to Nigeria.
The arrest of the IPOB leader has seen different angles to the development with some news outlets claiming that he was arrested in the Czech Republic, some claim Brazil, others Ethiopia, while some believe he was arrested in Kenya.
The Kenyan government officials in separate interviews with Reuters and Kenya’s Nation newspaper denied the claim by Kanu’s brother that he was arrested and extradited from their country.
“A spokeswoman for the Kenyan interior ministry said it was not aware of the matter, while the foreign affairs ministry in Nairobi did not respond to a request for comment,” Reuters said in its report.
Also, Muteshi while dismissing the family’s claim told Kenya’s Nation that it was not possible to tell whether Mr Kanu had entered Kenyan territory.
Mr. Muteshi when asked whether the claims made by the family were true said, “I can’t know that.”
