Gunmen storm Kwara hotel, abduct Chinese expatriate

A Chinese national, Williams Zang, was abducted last night by a group of armed men, numbering six at Cherish Guest House in the outskirts of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The Chinese national was kidnapped around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday when the gunmen entered the hotel, shooting sporadically to cause panic amongst nearby residents.

Williams, a former employee of Erkang Quarry, had been lodging at the guest house for over two months prior to the incident, while the assailants utilized the manager’s vehicle, a black Toyota Venza with registration number Lagos FST 701 HG, to transport the victim.

Confirming the abduction of the Chinese national, spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, said the manager of the guest house, Mr. Idume David Joseph, reported the case at Eiyenkorin police station, while the Tactical teams of the command were immediately deployed to comb the entire area and its neighborhoods.

She said this led to the recovery of the aforementioned vehicle along Ilorin/Ogbomosho road early hours of Monday, suspecting that the perpetrators employed a standby motorcycle to transport the victim further into the bush from the main road.

DSP Toun noted that three suspects had been apprehended, while investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, has therefore assured citizens of the state of the Command’s primary focus to rescue the victim and apprehend the assailants as local vigilantes are working in synergy with the Command’s Tactical Teams assiduously.
