Coup Plot: DSS tracks, arrests man who used social media handle to canvass military takeover from Tinubu 

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man who allegedly used his personal social media account to call for a military takeover of the Nigerian government.

 

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been made public, was said to have posted messages inciting the armed forces to depose the current administration. His posts reportedly went viral across several platforms, prompting swift security action.

 

In a statement on Tuesday, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya confirmed the arrest, describing the suspect’s conduct as a “reckless and seditious act capable of undermining national stability.”

 

“No responsible security agency will ignore such a grave incitement. The Service acted swiftly to prevent possible threats to public order,” Afunanya said.

 

He urged Nigerians to refrain from making or sharing subversive content online, stressing that freedom of expression does not extend to calls for unconstitutional change of government.

 

The arrest comes amid heightened vigilance by security agencies against online misinformation and political agitation perceived as threats to national security.

 

Sources said the suspect is being interrogated at the DSS headquarters in Abuja and may be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
