The convener for The New Nigerian Group and President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Mazi Sam Uhuabunwa has said that his aims in joining the presidential race is to take Nigeria from the third World to a first World nation, saying that Nigeria is too blessed to be the poor capital of the World.
The Presidential aspirant who was speaking during a courtesy call on him by the United for Better Nigerian Initiative(UBNI) Lagos chapter over the Weekend said that the insecurity situation in the country could easily be resolved with credible leadership, saying Nigerians have suffered enough from bad leadership.
He therefore called on Nigerians to be careful who they elect to lead them come 2023 as every thing falls on leadership and urged them to ensure that their future will not be stolen by getting interested on those who will lead them ,especially as it concerns the presidential position.
Speaking at the event, UBNI Secretary, Mr. Sunny Okoro said that Nigerians are over-joyed that a well tried leader like Mazi Sam Uhuabunwa has thrown his cap into the ring to via for the 2023 presidential election, saying the development is a clear sign that God has not abandoned Nigeria.
Describing Uhuabunwa as God sent he urged him to go ahead with his effort which is patriotic and godly and a clear sign that the Nigerian nation would be salvaged after-all.
Okoro declared that its the turn of the igbos to rule Nigeria and that Uhuabunwa’s aspiration is in consonance with the times as South-east is the only region that have not ruled Nigeria since 1999 when it was decided that the presidency should go round the regions in the overall interest of the country.
UBNI Woman leader for Lagos and South-west,Chief(Mrs)Kate Onyechere in her contribution said that the South -west supports Uhuabunwa’s aspiration as he is known as a de-tribalised Nigerian and one that is fair to all and sundry in his disposition.
She said that the female folks are bound to support him as a proven supporter of policies that are gender sensitive
Uhuabunwa is one the greatest corporate titan Nigeria has ever known,after his graduation from Columbia University,USA Sam joined Pfizer as Sales Representative in 1978. He later became the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Pfizer in Nigeria. In 1997, the headquarters of Pfizer in New York, USA decided to reduce its business operations in Nigeria, and offered Sam Ohuabunwa the opportunity to lead a management buy over of their 60% equity investments.
This gave rise Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc, an indigenous company today in Nigeria. He named this company in honour of a former president of Pfizer, Mr Robert Neimeth. He retired from his role as CEO of Neimeth PLC in 2011 after serving in that capacity for 18 years.Ohuabunwa is a fellow of the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Society as well as the present Chairman of same body.
Ohuabunwa is foundation president of the West African Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. He was also the Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and former chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.He is also a Fellow of the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists, Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy, Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and other professional bodies.
In the public sector, he was a member of Presidential Committee on vision 2010 and Vision 2020 national development plans. Mazi Sam has been on the Board of Nigerian Institute Of Social And Economic Research and Nigerian Health Insurance Scheme. He was appointed on the board of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) by President Goodluck Jonathan. He was chairman of the governing board of Abia State Polytechnic and also chairman of the board of the Abia State Teaching Hospital. Early this year he announced his candidacy for the Presidency of Nigeria in the 2023 elections under the newly formed party New Nigeria Group (NNG).
